Gaston Mchera

The lesion on Gaston’s neck needs to be surgically removed. But surgery can’t be done at ORCI so this means paying privately or going on a long list at a Government funded hospital. Paying as a private patient isn’t an option for Gaston, and, as his lesion grows, the option for simply waiting isn’t reassuring either.

As a 32-year-old father of 3 children, Gaston is juggling his health, and, trying to figure out a way to support his family and safe guard a future for them.

In 1993 TAS paid fees for Gaston to train as a carpenter. Gaston was grateful, but found that working in the dusty environment was making him sick, and he couldn’t afford the tools for his own business. Theology is his passion, and his church elder paid for his diploma in theology. Gaston’s ambition is to continue to degree level so that he can get a university teaching job. The paper Gaston holds in the photo is an estimate from a recording studio. Gaston and his wife are gospel singers and if they can come up with 450,000 TSH  (approx $360 USD) their dream is to record their album and help fund their future.
